How was your Valentine’s Day? It’s not a huge holiday forus, but we still like to celebrate together. We treated ourselves to little things throughout the weekend – a yummy bowl of pho, a trip to Wilmington, and a nice steak dinner and movie night at home! It was a fun weekend and I enjoyed spending some time with my husband without the distraction of our phones and housekeeping chores.
My husband loves Star Wars, so I got him a visual encyclopedia and Star Wars Monopoly (which I totally beat him in) and he got me a cute new wax warmer and this gorgeous Sonia Kashuk brush kit! He knows me too well…I’ve been on the lookout for a new warmer for our bedroom and this cute one from Kohl’s is perfect!
I also made a fun and ‘lighter’ Valentine’s dessert with some red velvet cake mix and Cheerwine, a North Carolina classic. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Cheerwine, it’s a cherry flavored soft drink that’s super popular in the Carolinas. For those of you who aren’t familiar with soda pop cakes, they’re a lighter take on traditional box cake preparation; you simply dump the cake mix into a bowl and pour in one can of diet soda and bake as usual. The result is rich, moist, and velvety cake without the added calories and fat of eggs and oil! Although, let’s be real, diet soda isn’t exactly healthy either…but I digress. I didn’t take a picture of the final product, because quite frankly it’s hideous, but delicious nonetheless. Once I took the cake out of the oven, I poked a bunch of holes and poured the frosting (melted) over the top and let it set. Ahhhhmazing!
Here’s my Valentine look:
I paired Lancome’s Brilliant Berry blush with a sweet eye look from the Chocolate Bar palette – Amaretto, Cherry Cordial, Salted Caramel, and Marzipan on the lid and then Black Forest Truffle as eyeliner. On my lips are MAC’s Rebel and Creme Cup mixed together.
I know Valentine’s Day is over…but what’s your favorite love song? I’ve been trying to pick a favorite and can’t come up with one!
